Jer 9:24

”But let him who boasts, boast about this, ….that I am the Lord who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight, says the Lord.”

I notice that what we delight in as humans is quite different from what God delights in, just as much as His ways and thoughts are different from ours. (Isaiah 55: 8-9)

Unfortunately these human desires of ours have been seriously curtailed by covid19.

Our freedom of movement for example, has been adversely affected. We can no longer freely visit places of amusement, or even tourists sites; neither can a person publicly display affection for fear of being infected. Even sporting activities have also been affected and football enthusiasts can no longer throng the stadium to support their favorite teams.

Our key scripture for today, however presents a different set of things God delights in.

— Kindness
That’s heartwarming.God’s topmost delight is to show lovingkindness to mankind. May you enjoy God’s kindness even in this season.

— Justice
A knowledge that God is just and that He will repay each one according to the deeds done in the flesh should wake us up. ”Vengeance is mine says the Lord.”

— Righteousness
That’s a high bar! Remember that all our righteous deeds are like filthy rags before the Lord. There is none righteous, no, not one. (Rom 3 :10)

Dear friend what do we do in the face of these two sets of seemingly opposing desires?

I believe it’s time for us to delight ourselves in the things God delights in. (Psm 37:4)

As we seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, all these other things shall be restored to us; and these include the freedom of movement, fun at the foodcourts and even football.
